Where to eat: the 50 best restaurants in Wexford (2024)

The Ferrycarrig Hotel is a luxurious riverside property with bistro dining and a leisure centre with pool and sauna. The Dry Dock Bar offers a fabulous outdoor deck area overlooking the Slaney Estuary.

We had a lovely few nights at Ferricarrig Hotel, fabulous views of the estuary, room spotless and beautifully decorated Pool area spotless and all amenities also great, a shout out to Lina so friendly and helpful. Breakfast superb in a lovely setting A1. Mary

Lovely comfortable room with a view of the estuary, but we had a very noisy and intrusive extractor fan from the kitchens right outside and next to our deck so 103 not the best room. Decent meal in the bar and good breakfast.

Attended a wedding here recently, it was beautiful from start to finish. Such a relaxed atmosphere and well organised. The service and food were excellent I couldn't fault it.The breakfast buffet was delicious. We had a table by the window looking out onto the water. There was a lot of choice on offer to suit everyone. The room was gorgeous, so spacious and very modern. Our room had a balcony and a lovely view. The beds were very comfortable.Enjoyed my stay. I will definitely be back.Thank you ferrigcarrig

Hotel is isolated.10 min drive to Wexford town.No entertainment in hotel so nights were quite boring. No walking areas?Keep off grass signs out side.Food was OK.Felt portions were small and prices were steep enough.Room was spotless clean.Bathroom was old fashioned and shower was difficult enough to turn on and off.Pool was lovely.Hotel Staff were very nice.I had sciatica and found it difficult to walk.Lower car park was full so I parked in Upper car park.36 steep steps down to hotel and 36 steep steps up from hotel wen going back to my car.So not ideal for me.We thought our room had a balcony when booking? That was not the case. Also the rooms in the hotel adverts are much more elaborate than the one we had.Asked for an upgrade?Sorry hotel fully booked out?We really felt it was not?Anyways. It's a nice hotel.Clean roomsFriendly staff but we won't be returning 😒

Oh what can I say about The Ferrycarrig Hotel. It's absolutely fabulous here. Great welcome when you arrive. Room very generous size, clean, airy and all the mod cons that you need. There was 2 weddings there on the Friday and Saturday and I must say never heard a word in our room on both nights. Had dinner there on 3 nights and I must say it was absolutely A1. Great selection and probably the best restaurant food we have had on our many visits to hotel. The staff and bar staff were super friendly. The breakfast on the 3 mornings was very very good also. Fresh, tasty and a great selection. Nothing too much bother for them. 100% definitely highly recommend the Ferrycarrig Hotel. 5 star plus

My wife and I had a lovely few days at Ferrycarrig Hotel recently. The hotel was fine in all respects. However the I must comment poor quality of service from the waiting staff in Bar Restaurant. They were unfriendly and I thought quite distant to the point of being almost rude .The Bar Manager Keith, who I understand is new to that position, was friendly, attentive and interactive with the guests. He compensated somewhat for the others.

I stayed here for one night with my sister. the staff were so friendly and informative. The leisure club was just lovely, and nice and quiet! The room was gorgeous with a really nice modern shower. The view and overall location of the place is beautiful. I would definitely return!

Amazing staff, can't say enough good things about them. Nice rooms, nice swimming pool for the kids, pub grub is a bit disappointing, limited menu and lacks a little bit of refinement. Would recommend the hotel without hesitation however.

Just home from a fantastic stay in this gorgeous hotel. Everything was perfect from the rooms to the staff and the food was absolutely amazing. Well worth a visit😍

Christine D — Google review

Lovely setting by the river with great views. Nice atmosphere and pleasant welcoming staff...The only quibbles are 1) the bar food is quite bland and 2) our room was too warm with no way to adjust the temperature...

We had a family Christmas overnight with dinner, The rooms were excellent, dinner was very good as was the breakfast, The staff was friendly, The music in the bar was good but we could not go in as it was just too loud, why does the volume have to be so high? You can't have a chat.

Richard D — Google review

We arrived too early and were unable to check in so had lunch in the bar. I was very impressed by the quality of food. I was traveling with someone with mobility issues and requested a room close to the elevator. I was accommodated in this regard and also the put us on level 1 with easy access to restaurant and bar. The room and view are both wonderful.

Loved our weekend stay at The Ferrycarrig . We had a meal included in our stay and would recommend the food in the restaurant . Great choice on the menu . The room was very nice with a lovely view to the bay. The spa and pool area was very nice also . Music in the bar and bar menu . 15 euro taxi into Wexford .

Second visit in Two weeks. Says it all.super hotel very attractive setting. Spotlessly clean. Beautiful restaurant The Reeds. Need to book for this but not bar. Bar restaurant is good also. Breakfast wonderful. Staff excellent. Friendly.

I don't know were to start firstly the rooms are absolutely spectacular with breath taken views but that's were it ends sadly the food was very poor and the staff have no interest we had to evacuate in the middle of the night and no apology and the lack of a shuttle bus or taxi on stand by sealed the deal.

Lovely hotel and lovely staff. Rooms were great. Love the out door area and the buffet breakfast was excellent especially in the restaurant area beautiful views and gorgeous room. A couple of downsides the bar area needs a revamp the tables and chairs just don't suit it and it's a real pity as the room it's self could be fabulous. The cocktail drinks on tap were not good, veryyyyy sweet and not sure what kind of alcohol they served but think they might have been unbranded versions as they just didn't taste right. The staff were very attentive and efficient. Also had gorgeous massage and the lovely girl doing it couldn't have been nicer definitely recommend. Overall will definitely be back and would recommend. Well done to all the staff.

Lovely room with great view of the river. Was away with my mam so it was great the room was so big, with sofa, table and chairs etc. Great shower and beds really comfortable. Loved the toiletries, smelled fab. Really friendly and helpful staff, especially Keith and David in the bar. Amazing choice for breakfast, everything you could want and we ate in the bar a couple of evenings and food and service great there too. Used the gym and swimming pool and again friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely be back

We had our wedding here and wanted to express huge gratitude for the outstanding service and hospitality that was provided at the Ferrycarrig for our wedding last week. The attention to detail, impeccable organization, and warm hospitality was the making of the day. From the setup, to the food and the bars, every aspect exceeded our expectations. Karen and the wedding planning team in addition to all the staff went above and beyond to ensure that ourselves and our guests felt welcomed and attended to throughout the day and night. We received a huge amount of positive feedback from our guests about the hotel and the service.Thank you for contributing to the magic of the day. We appreciate it all.We look forward to the opportunity to celebrate many future milestones at the Ferrycarrig.

Very clean hotel, room was not very bright but spotless, with very comfortable beds. Delicious breakfast. We had a dinner in the dry dock and everything was delicious. I highly recommend this hotel.

Very good hotel.it wasa bit far from the town about 10 euro in a taxi Nd it had a lot of weddings also 4 in 4 days while we were there but you could watch them on the grass while you had a drink on the balcony or in the beer garden my mam loved that . the view was lovely the staff are great and friendly Nd the food was immaculate especially reeds restaurant top quality we got 3 courses and wine for like 80 euro for 2 ..really enjoyed our stay

We used the dry dock bar, and it is incredibly peaceful given that this hotel is right off the main road. We could have happily spent all day there. We just had some coffee as we were on the way back to the ferry and even though we weren't there for food the staff were incredibly friendly. The ladies' bathrooms are narrow. It was an effort to pass by others to get to a cubicle. If you have mobility issues, do use the disabled facilities.

Just spent a few days at the Ferrycarrig Hotel and cannot fault it in any way. From the moment we arrived, we were met with friendly staff and superb service. I'm a people watcher and I loved sitting back and watching how the staff interacted with the guests. Well done to all and I will be back!

Went here for a baby moon and had such a relaxing time. The pool and spa are fab, ladies changing rooms were clean. Staff were friendly. The restaurant food was very tasty. Breakfast was lovely - such a variety. They make their own brown soda bread (unreal), banana bread and walnut and treacle bread. If there is one complaint the room was warm but we were given a fan. Lucy at reception was helpful and great to chat to. The bar manager was very helpful also! Will be back. Hope management appreciates the staff and maintains what they do great.

Midweek deal was great value. Excellent location overlooking the River estuary. Great food and friendly service. No lift at the moment due to works but only had to go 1 floor with very manageable stairs. Works did not disturb. Great pool and gym and each room with a balcony overlooking the river. Great spot for bit of painting. Heritage park very near. Would love to return.

We had dinner here for my birthday. The service in the restaurant is amazing. The restaurant manager, Mr. Mendy, was so welcoming and helpful. The menu is broad and exciting. The food was delicious and the soufflé in particular.Cannot recommend highly enough.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights the young girl that checked us in and out was so friendly and helpful she really helped to start our holiday on a high. Our check is was fast and when we got to our room it was gorgeous overall a great trip

Didn't receive a welcoming from the reception on check-inFrom the word go it was made very clear that my wife and I would not be running up a tap hence there would be no settling up on departure.THIS WAS VERY CLEAR and made us feel like Undesirables.

Jemser — Google review

The room we paid for had an awful stench. My husband went to reception a number of times to have housekeeping come to the room, only to be told that they had called and could not see anything. And it was true, they couldn't but you can't see stench. After advising reception that we'd have to leave, the receptionist advised that we were getting a major upgrade. The upgrade was far from major but a nice room none the less. Definitely will not be back.

This hotel was not for me! I stayed for 3 nights and it was very noisy. The first morning I was woken up at 7am to what I thought was next door having a private Metallica concert in their room.. Enter Sandman was blasting from the gym downstairs and a few guests were on their balconies as confused as me! The other mornings it was leaf blowers and some workers hammering but this was about 8.30am to be fair! The bathroom was very outdated and the shower not great at all which would be a big thing for me. Also the room was overly warm with no option to turn on AC.The food in the dry dock bar I didn’t feel was great, it wasn’t terrible but… I just got the feeling that the place needed a real revamp and was all a bit tacky! The swimming pool and gym were fantastic and the staff down there were lovely … there were lots of kids and families and although this was lovely to see, I was hoping for a more relaxing few days… if you are looking for peace and tranquillity this is definitely not the place but other guests with families seemed to be enjoying themselves so each to their own 😊 I had an ok time but definitely won’t be returning!

We had our wedding in the Ferrycarrig hotel at the beginning of August and could not be happier with the wonderful service we received. Despite being the 5th wedding in the hotel over the bank holiday weekend, we were looked after so well and every detail of the day went off without a hitch. The staff are truly incredible and were so accommodating to us and our guests. Karen, the wedding coordinator, helped us to plan every detail of our day and went above and beyond in every way! The setting, food, service, rooms were all just perfect on the day. We cannot thank you enough!!

Wonderfully welcoming hotel with amazing staff. Really have to highlight the excellent service from the wait staff in the dry dock bar especially Clara who was incredibly kind to our kids

My wife and I stopped off for lunch on the way to Hook head to take a tour of Hook Lighthouse (really recommend it). Our lunch was amazing. My wife had the lamb and I had the beef. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.

I can't fault our stay. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Room, food, and views are something else. I would highly recommend it. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.

7 years ago we stayed here with a young family and returned for 2 night stay March 2024 . It is still a fabulous hotel and lovely to see some of the staff who were there 7 years ago still providing excellent service . Our children now 7, 10 and 12 years old loved the hotel and especially the pool .

Very impressed with this hotel. Many of the rooms have been substantially upgraded, and the whole leisure centre seems brand new. We had a really nice two day break which included B&B and dinner on both nights. The dinner menus was really good, and the presentation was excellent. The room was well furnished, clean and very comfortable. The food was excellent, and the service was first class.

Our favourite place we’ve stayed in Ireland so far! Beautiful location, clean rooms, wonderful staff, amazing food, reasonable prices and a beautiful view!! We only stayed one night but all agreed we wish we were staying longer. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Reeds restaurant in the hotel; the host with the gorgeous red dress shoes was fabulous, as were the waiters/waitresses. Frankly we were blown away by the breads even before we got our meals. The buffet breakfast the next morning had a good variety, and a wonderful spread of fresh toppings with multiple types of compote and jams. The teeny-tiniest thing missing was real maple syrup for the pancakes (though the maple flavoured syrup was still good) and the butter was fresh and sweet enough you didn’t need much syrup at all anyways. We’re Canadian so we’re probably syrup spoiled in that regard at home and most people probably wouldn’t care. I also haven’t actually seen maple syrup at any place we’ve been at so far so it’s nothing against this hotel though.Overall, I recommend this place to anyone travelling through Ireland. There was a large variety of guests ranging from families with kids, older and younger couples and friends travelling together so it’s truly a place for everyone. I believe they also host weddings and it would be a beautiful place to do so. There was also lots of ramps and the elevators were a good size so although some of the hallways can be a touch on the narrower size it was one of the most accessible spots we’ve visited. To top it off the town is adorable with really cute shops. We dropped by Cafe Cream on our way out and got some great coffee for the road and absolutely phenomenal scones.

We have stayed here on a few occasions and we always enjoy our stay. If I had one complaint to make it would b the menu we given to choose dinner from was a bit lacking in choice if u didn't like fish .But I would really recommend staying in the hotel.

Brendan B — Google review

Firstly, staff were incredible helpful and friendly, food was first class, reasonable in bar and duly expensive in Reeds Restaurant as to be expected for highy class dining. During the day, there was no where to actually relax except for bar, no lounge or foyer area...very strange layout, not ideal for disability or wheelchairs, very limited access.
